Youth in Mymensingh Call for a Nuclear-Free World: “Our Future Is Not Yours to Destroy”

Mymensingh, 27 October 2026 — International Youth Change Maker (IYCM) held a youth awareness session at Proyash Bhobon, Mymensingh, calling for a nuclear-free world. Titled “Youth for Peace, Equality & a Nuclear-Free World,” the session was part of IYCM’s Project UN initiative and ran from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday. It was facilitated by Mehnoma Tabassum Prapty, and 25 young people took part.

Why this youth awareness session

Nuclear weapons remain a serious threat to humanity, international security and global peace. Their harm does not stop at the moment of destruction. They also affect human health, the environment and future generations.

Young people have a key role in building a peaceful future, but they get few chances to discuss these issues. IYCM organised this session to help close that gap.

What the session covered

The one-hour session covered:

  • An introduction to nuclear weapons and nuclear warfare
  • The history and human cost of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (August 1945)
  • The effects of nuclear weapons on human health, civilians and the environment
  • The role of the United Nations, the NPT and the TPNW in nuclear disarmament
  • Young people’s role in building peace, equality and dialogue

The session ended with an open discussion and Q&A, where participants shared their own views.

Youth voices on placards

After the session, participants stood in an open field with the banner and hand-written placards. The placards read:

  • “Build Peace, Not Bombs — Our future is not yours to destroy.”
  • “Our Planet Is Not A Test Site — Disarm Now”
  • “Equality For All, Nukes For None”
  • “Youth Rise for Peace — No War, No Nuclear Weapons”
  • “No Nukes”

Outcomes and recommendations

According to the session report, all 25 participants learned about the dangers of nuclear war and about international peace efforts. The report recommends:

  • Holding more youth awareness sessions on peace, equality and human rights
  • Building youth-led campaigns
  • Strengthening cooperation among youth organisations to spread peace education
